The Program
The Forum will be a half-day event featuring keynote presentations and a panel of government representatives discussing sensor and sensor system technology requirements both now and in the future. A panel of local researchers and industry will present some very advanced state-of-the-art research and product developments in sensors for unmanned systems.
Feature Presentations
Ms. E. Anne Sandel, Program Executive Officer, Littoral and Mine Warfare, reports directly to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition (ASN RDA). Ms. Sandel, a strong proponent of engagement with small businesses, will discuss initiatives within her seven program offices.
Luncheon Speaker: We are pleased to welcome Dr. Jonathan Bornstein. Dr Bornstein is the Chief of the Army Research Laboratory Robotics Program Office, and Collaborative Alliance Manager for the Robotics Collaborative Technology Alliance (CTA).
The Panels
The two Panels will present opportunities and activities in their respective areas and will highlight how to get involved. Each session will include opportunity for audience questions.
Government Representative Panel
· Navy Surface Warfare Center, Dam Neck
Scott Keenan, Netted Sensors Project manager, Force Integration and Interoperability, will present the opportunity for the development of a Netted Sensor Grid
· Army Aviation Applied Technology Directorate
Mr. Raymond Wall, Chief of Technology Integration Division, Army Aviation Applied Technology Directorate, Ft. Eustis, will discuss Army aviation technology integration initiatives.
· Navy Surface Warfare Center, Carderock, Mr. Eric Hansen, Combatant Craft Division, will present Autonomous Maritime Navigation and Griffin programs, An overview of experiences, acquired data, and current perception system will be discussed with regards to the unique characteristics of various sensor types at sea.
· Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific, Chris Mailey, discuss sensors and SPAWAR small business outreach programs.
Academia &Industry Panel
- Old Dominion University, Dr. G. Zhou, presenting Field Station, a mobile station for monitoring real-time video data processing
- Virginia Institute of Marine Science, Dr. Mark Patterson, presenting Fetch, a very advanced unmanned underwater vehicle that is loaded with sensors
- Oceana Sensor, Mr. Rick Lally, CEO, will discuss sensor related technologies that will fill gaps in the future unmanned systems capabilities roadmap.
- Measurement Specialties Inc, Mr. Don Halvorsen, Director for Piezo products, will present a key Navy program on mine hunting sensors and other UAV applications.
