York
River Academy is Seeking IT Professionals York
County Schools are looking for IT professionals
to serve as mentors to students majoring in
either cabling/ computer repair or web design
for the 2003-2004 school year. They are
also looking for technology locations for students
to serve as non-paid interns.
York's
first charter school, York River Academy,
has a curriculum focused on courses that provide
students with the knowledge necessary to be
successful in certification tests for A+ computer
repair and web design standards set by CIW.
Upon enrolling in the school, students
select a major course of study in either cabling/computer
repair or web design. While textbooks, lectures
and hands-on practice are necessary to student
learning, the program can not be completed without
mentors from industry professionals and internship
opportunities in the IT workplace. Students
who work as interns in either major receive
high school credit towards graduation. Students
are trained in a collaborative team approach
that simulates the workplace.
If your business is interested
in providing an internship for students to practice
their work skills or you are willing to serve
as a mentor, please contact Valerie Taylor,
Education and Corporate Liaison for the York
County school division at vtaylor@ycsd.york.va.us.
Additional information about York
River Academy is available at www.yorkcountyschools.org
